Exciting Diving Sites in Dominica

Exciting Diving Sites in Dominica

Note: Please remember to call ahead to any destination you plan on visiting to ensure hours of operation and other regulations.

You can get to Dominica by plane, private jet, or cruise ship. No matter how you arrive, though, it’s what you do when you get there that matters, right? Just think of kicking back, relaxing, and just taking in the volcanic rainforest surrounding you. It’s one of the most uniquely rewarding Caribbean vacations you’ll ever have. Of course, the Caribbean is dotted with islands for your exploring pleasure, but there’s not one quite like Dominica.

Dominica is remarkably different in culture and landscape. This island gem is finally starting to get the attention it deserves. For instance, this is just one of the islands used in the filming of Jack Sparrow’s famous jaunt, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Aside from scouring the sands for booty or sailing the high seas, you can also take part in jungle safaris, river tubing, horseback riding, and scuba diving – just to name a few!

Almost 70% of Dominica is untouched rainforest. It’s the home of national parks, waterfalls, and natural wonders. It’s tough to decide what to do when you arrive on Dominica, but scuba diving is probably the best way to see more of what the island has to offer beneath the seas.

As beautiful as the diving locations are around Dominica, it still appears this Caribbean gem is a closely kept secret among divers. You won’t find that many, which adds to the allure of untouched perfection. Two of the best diving sites are located in the north near Portsmouth – Toucari Caves or Five Finger Rock.

The main diving spots, however, are along the southern coast of the island – another reason why Toucari Caves and Five Finger Rock are so well-hidden. Just outside of Roseau you’ll find Champagne Reef. This is a diver’s favorite for its easy accessibility. The reef is aptly named because the hot springs created from the volcanic thermal floor bubble up around the reef, looking like a freshly poured glass of bubbly.

Dive on in and see what else Dominica has to offer for your next getaway.
